Barber Gives Back at Cloverdale Community Kitchen

On January 11, the team from Barber Prosthetics Clinic extended their holiday spirit and ventured out to Cloverdale to prep, cook, and serve a meal for the Cloverdale Community Kitchen. On the menu was a pear and peanut salad, seasoned rice and vegetables, and glazed pork, topped off with brownies and whipped cream!

Upon arrival, we donned our aprons and were put straight to work. We sliced, diced, whisked, and stirred for 2 hours in preparation for dinner service. Unfortunately, attendance was low, but luckily for those who made it out, there were plenty of leftovers to share and take to others in the community!

We had a lot of fun working as a team in a new environment and may have found our second calling.

Thank you to Lisa and the team at CCK for having us and patiently guiding us through the process and to Brittany our fellow Barber team member for setting it up for us.

A Paralympian’s Positive Account of The Paralympics During the Covid-19 Pandemic

Through the chaos of the Covid-19 pandemic, the organizers of the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics managed to put together an incredible event.

Having recently returned from the Paralympics (Sept 2021), I have deep gratitude for the people of Tokyo for hosting such an incredible event. They made us feel welcome and safe and provided spectacular accommodations and venues for us to play the sport that we love. The protocols put in place, made everyone feel very safe and comfortable.

As a member of Team Canada Women's Sitting Volleyball, I am incredibly proud of our 4th place finish as we did much better than our first Paralympics in Rio, and really excited for the future of our program. After a short rest period, we're ready to get back at it again to prepare for Paris 2024!
