A Clinic Field Trip

We like to mix things up a little here at Barber Prosthetics Clinic, so when we got a phone call from a high school teacher in the States a few weeks ago...well, we had to say yes to her request…

...and the Clinic ended up hosting a field trip!

A group of fifteen high school students came to visit us from Washington State.  Led by Prosthetist Brittany Pousett and Technician Alyson Clow, the students got an educational tour of the clinic and its various work areas and equipment. Following the tour, there was discussion and plenty of Q & A’s about the world of prosthetics, as well as talk about what kind of research Barber Prosthetics Clinic is involved in. We let the students test all kinds of different prosthetic devices. Of course, even more questions came up— we love young inquisitive minds!

They all really kept us on our toes! For more of a hands-on experience, the students finished off the day by casting a finger and pouring it up with plaster.  A slightly messy experience, but an experience nonetheless. For us, it was a “real trip” hosting these teens. For them, it was a day of learning and laughter at Barber Prosthetics Clinic. Everyone walked away with a smile and much more insight into the fascinating world of prosthetics. Hopefully we were able to inspire and educate some young minds and possibly motivate a few students into entering the ever-advancing and exciting field of prosthetics one day.
